The Grace Baptist Story

A small group of born-again Christians met in early 2006 to explore the creation of a new Baptist Church in Patrick County. It was decided that this new church would be centered on the fundamental preaching and teaching of God’s Word. The church would strive to develop into a fellowship built on loving relationships. It would be a vibrant, healthy church with an outreach program to encourage all persons interested in developing a closer walk with our Heavenly Father.

At one of many organizational meetings, the name “Grace Baptist Church” was chosen. During this time of organization, God opened many doors and led us to a suitable building that we could call our temporary home.  On Sunday, June 4, 2006 we met for worship and fellowship as the new Grace Baptist Church in the Mayo Baptist Church facilities on Dobyns Road, west of Stuart, VA.

Many plans and actions developed over the next few months of 2006. Ted Thisse surrendered to the call to be our full-time pastor. The group selected three members to be temporary deacons until we could be organized and have an election. The position of teachers, Sunday School Director, music ministry, and other positions needed were filled with volunteers. It was our decision to affiliate with the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia and the Southern Baptist Convention.

Through out this time of organization and new beginning, it was comforting to see the hand of God was leading our decisions and directing our actions.

With much thanksgiving for God’s great provision, the Grace Family moved in October, 2011 to their new home on top of Grace Mountain at 14087 Jeb Stuart Hwy.

In September 2012, the Grace Family were delighted to wecolme Mark Elkins as pastor.

God has greatly blessed Grace since He birthed her in 2006. As we continue to grow together in Him, we look forward with anticipation to the ministry that He called our church family to do.
