April Pastor’s Notes

It’s April, the days are getting longer, the nights are getting warmer, and the sights and sounds of Spring fill the air (along with a lot of pollen).  And this year something else is coming with April:  Easter!  Yes, in just a few weeks, we will all be celebrating the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!  And although society and sometimes even the church seems to celebrate Christmas more, it is the message of the cross and the empty tomb that should stir our souls to worship and praise with every fiber of our being.

It is true that there is actually no command in Scripture to celebrate a specific holiday called Easter. But, I still think that it is unquestionably God-honoring for us to make a big deal about the climax of human history:  Jesus’ atoning sacrifice on Calvary’s Cross and His victory over death with the empty tomb.  This year is particularly special because we have been building up our  Spiritual Discipline with a rigorous Spring Training from Paul’s first letter to his disciple Timothy.

All of this training and discipline has prepared us as a church for a very special opportunity to glorify our God.  We are challenging and encouraging one another to invite two new people or families to worship with us this Easter Sunday.  It is our prayer that God will bless us with the opportunity to share His glorious Gospel with 200 people, making this Easter our single greatest evangelistic effort to date.

Therefore, I encourage you to start praying today!  Pray not only about whom to ask, but also pray for the souls of those you will eventually ask.  Pray that they will be receptive to your invitation, that their hearts will be open to the Good News of the Gospel they will hear, and that they will be compelled by the power of the Holy Spirit to repent and trust in Jesus Christ our Lord.  Beloved, today is the day of salvation and we “are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!”  Christ is Risen… He is Risen Indeed!!!
